Mexico is on fire in different places. From the north to the south of the territory, violence has erupted on a large scale, the armed forces confront drug trafficking that is expanding strongly, while the president Claudia Sheinbaum assures that there will not be a war against drugs as occurred during the former president’s six-year term Felipe Calderonbut the death numbers less than a month after he took power say otherwise.
His administration began with a bloodbath and the situation does not seem to improve, beyond being a fight of “good and evil”, it seems to be an endless horror.
Although deaths are recorded both in the civilian population and in the security forces and criminals, this last sector has suffered marked losses at the hands of the authorities, which leads to wondering if there really is not a war against drugs. The response of the experts is that, due to the militarization that exists in that country, the strategy is exactly the same as that used with Calderón, since The Mexican Army is in charge of ensuring security and at the hands of its elements many have died.
The numbers don’t lie, At least 39 criminals have been killed by the Army in the first days of Sheinbaum’s mandate, and for the president the explanation is simple: the soldiers respond as protocol indicates to the attacks and in that response lives are lost. But the most alarming thing is that deaths of innocent civilians at the hands of the armed forces have been documented during these days.
“When the Armed Forces, be it the National Guard, be it the Navy, be it the Army, are attacked, then within the framework of the law they have the right to respond within the framework of self-defense,” Sheinbaum said.
Militarization in Sinaloa
In Sinaloa the dispute between La Mayiza and Los Chapitoswhich began in early September, seems to have no end, despite the increased presence of the Army, Special Forces and National Guard.
During October, 192 people were murdered and 224 missing, despite the fact that more than a thousand elements of federal forces, 400 from the Army and Special Forces, and 600 agents from the National Guard, have been deployed.
In just one week, 25 people were killed in Sinaloa at the hands of the Army: 19 in clashes in Sanalona, after the arrest of Edwin Antonio, alias “El Max”, an operator of the faction of the Sinaloa Cartel akin to Ismael “El Mayo” Zambadaand six others were killed in a confrontation in the Tepuche administration, according to the La Silla Rota site.
According to information from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), during the military operation to arrest “El Max”, 30 hitmen attacked the troops of the Mexican Armywho repelled the aggression by killing 19 people.
In the Tepuche district, armed civilians attacked soldiers, who responded by killing six of them, but it was not reported to which criminal group they belonged.
Bloodbath in Guerrero
Another violent episode occurred in the south of Mexico with a large death toll. In the Tecpan municipality of Galeana, Guerrero, 16 people died, including two municipal police officers.
The Secretary of Security, Omar García Harfuch, presented a video of the events, in which 16 vehicles are seen entering the aforementioned municipality. For a moment they stop and begin to fire heavy-caliber firearms, after which they continue on their way, minutes later an attack is recorded, in which two police officers lost their lives.
The hitmen continued their attacks on the authorities, and now it was against military personnel, who repelled the attacks and They killed 16 criminals.
Harfuch assures that the attacks were directed at the criminal group The Granadosand that the hitmen identified themselves with the acronym “GNG”, New People Group. He also assured that the deployment of the Army, the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) and the National Guard (GN) prevented harm to the population.
