Two World Series champions will throw ceremonial ball at Dodger Stadium

The World Series between Dodgers vs. Yankees will have a couple of legends on the field for the ceremonial launch. Both World Series champions and Finals MVP with the Dodgers: Orel Hershiser and Steve Yeager.

Orel Hershiser had a record of 135-107 with a 3.12 ERA, 1,456 strikeouts and 5 saves in 353 career appearances for the Dodgers.

Hershiser was part of the 1988 championship team with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was a vital part of the team being MVP in the Championship Series against the New York Mets and then MVP against the Oakland Athletics in the final.

The right-hander went 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 2 appearances in the 1988 World Series.

The pitcher played 13 years with the Dodgers, 3 years with the Cleveland Guardians1 year with the New York Mets and 1 with the San Francisco Giants.

Steve Yeager, champion in the World Series against the Yankees

Steve Yeager is one of the receivers with the longest wearing the uniform of the Dodgers.

Yeager had a .228 batting average with 789 hits, 100 home runs, 398 runs batted in and 347 runs scored in 1,219 career games for the Dodgers.

The catcher was part of the team that won the World Series in 1981 along with Fernando Valenzuela.

Yeager was awarded the MVP award in the ’81 World Series against the Yankees from New York.

The slugger had a batting average of .286 with 4 hits, 2 home runs, 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored in 6 games in the 1981 World Series.

This was the only title Steve Yeager won with the Los Angeles Dodgers and was revenge for the 1974 finals loss to the Oakland Athletics.

The World Series MVPs will be part of the opening ceremony of the World Series that will also have a tribute to the Mexican Fernando Valenzuela.
