An Iowa man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his father and then dumping his body in a ditch, where a mail carrier found it the next day.

Alex Jones26, was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Dennis Jones55, online court records show. He was convicted of first-degree murder last August.

The young man was sentenced to life imprisonmentdespite the fact that his mother had appealed to the judge asking for mercy and stating that her son was “a good boy.” The entire ordeal unfolded at his home in Fort Dodge, which is about 100 miles north of the state capital, Des Moines.

According to outlets such as the Daily Freeman-Journal, the defendant sent a text message to his brother, Nathan, 21, on April 25, in which he chillingly stated: “Someone is going to end up dead tonight.”. It’s unclear what sparked Alec’s anger, but his father allegedly attacked him previously with a hammer.

That night, it was determined that Dennis, the victim, had high levels of methamphetamine and amphetamines in his system, and had allegedly become violent.

His brother helped him hide the body

Alec allegedly took a gun that was owned by Nathan and He shot his father three times until he died..

One shot hit the center of Dennis’ torso, then another hit him above his left ear, and the third went through his forehead, Dr. Rory Deol, associate deputy state medical examiner, testified at the trial that ended in August. .

After the event, Alec and Nathan put their father’s body in the trunk of a car and they threw his half-naked corpse in a ditch with a rug over it. They then placed Alec’s shirt over his father’s head, prosecutors said.

The next day, April 26, a mail carrier discovered Dennis’ body and contacted police. Authorities quickly located Alec and Nathan and charged the former with first-degree murder.

For its part, Nathan will face trial next May for his alleged assistance in the murder and subsequent disposal of the body.
