The Secretariat of the Navy in Mexico (Semar) seized approximately 3.2 tons of cocaine. Likewise, the arrest of seven alleged lawbreakers was achieved off the coast of Manzanillo, Colima in two different actions.

In a first action, during maritime surveillance patrols, naval personnel aboard a surface unit of the Mexican Navy, He located marked packages floating in the sea, which contained alleged cocaine inside, weighing approximately 1.8 tons.

In a second action, Naval personnel seized an illicit cargo weighing approximately 1.4 tons, and seven alleged violators of the law were detained.

Although other drug seizures have been recorded in the Port of Manzanillo, for example on August 23, Semar reported on the seizure of 7.2 tons of cocaine, when 15 people were also detained, this new seizure occurs under the management of Claudia Sheinbaum.

For now, the authorities reported that both the detainees and the seized narcotics were made available to the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic, so that the ministerial authority can integrate the corresponding investigation files.

Manzanillo has a high volume of maritime traffic due to widespread use of the port by foreign countries to exchange legitimate commercial goods with Mexico and to refuel.

However, for the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), This port is an important area for the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) and the Sinaloa Cartel, criminal organizations that have a significant presence in national territory.

The above is because the area is strategically important due to its location on the central Pacific coast and its high volume of maritime traffic due to the widespread use of the port by foreign countries.

“The Port of Manzanillo is located just south of the stronghold of the rival Jalisco Cartel, increasing tensions between the two main Mexican cartels. “Numerous complicit transportation companies work with the Sinaloa Cartel to transport illicit drugs and precursor chemicals from ports to Mexico City and other inland locations,” the DEA said in an assessment earlier this year.
