Southern California region shaken by 4.0 earthquake

Southern California woke up this Sunday morning to a 4.0 magnitude earthquake that shook the Ontario area, in San Bernardino County.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), The earthquake was recorded at 3:51 am with its epicenter south of Highway 60near Ontario International Airport, at a depth of 3.54 miles. Originally, USGS reported that the quake had been magnitude 4.3.

The epicenter was located 4.3 miles southeast of Ontario4.5 miles north northwest of Eastvale, 4.9 miles north northwest of Jurupa Valley and 5.6 miles west northwest of Rancho Cucamonga, according to the USGS.

The authorities No injuries were reported immediately. or material damage due to this telluric movement.

According to a USGS impact map, the relatively shallow quake could be felt in many areas of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside and Orange countieseven as far south as northern regions of San Diego County.

According to reports, the earthquake was felt by residents of Ontario, Pomona, La Verne, Riverside and Anaheim Hills.

According to the Geological Survey, A few minutes later several minor aftershocks occurredthe strongest of which was magnitude 2.5, around 4:04 a.m.

This earthquake occurs just five days after a magnitude 3.1 earthquake will be recorded in the same area.

Thousands of earthquakes are recorded in California each year, but most are of smaller magnitudes. Several hundred reach a magnitude of 3.0, and only 15 to 20 reach 4.0 degrees or higher, according to the USGS.
