La Volpe does not understand Berterame's call to the Mexican team

Ricardo Antonio LaVolpeformer coach of the Mexico team in the 2006 World Cup process, was surprised by the call of the naturalized number 18 in the history of the Tricolor and highlighted that his call sends the message that national coach Javier Aguirre is not convinced of the forwards that the Aztec national team currently has.

In interview with The Opinionthe Argentine strategist with experience in Atlante, América, Toluca, Monterrey, Jaguares, Boca Juniors, Banfield and Egypt, as well as the Costa Rica national team, detailed his serious doubts due to the call of the Rayados de Monterrey player.

“If I bring him it is because the forwards that are there have not satisfied me, if not then why am I going to call him up. There is the issue, the reason and the question is why he called it. It is because I am not convinced of what there is, but why I summon it, Well, otherwise I wouldn’t get into trouble for free,” highlighted the experienced South American strategist.

La Volpe also explained the reasons for his doubts about Berterame’s call and recalled that he had to do the same with Guillermo Franco in the 2006 World Cup: “I had to call Guille Franco and he I said I have to call the scorer from Monterrey at that time and put him to play with Jared Borgetti to make that duo for me up there.”

“But finally I had the bad luck that Guille was finally injured and did not play in the World Cup due to an injury he brought from Spain, but he was a starter in the 2010 World Cup and that finally gave me the reason that I was not wrong in his call. , but he didn’t play with me, since I had to use Kikín Fonseca.”

The reasons for calling those naturalized

La Volpe also stated that: “What I understand is that everyone has their own way of thinking and there must have been a reason why they should have called it, but what surprises me is the position of nine, since he generally plays with only one nine.”

“Second, the great teams and the great selections that mostly play with two nines (forwards), starting with that, then you have Santi Giménez, Julián Quiñones, Henry Martín You have the one who is doing very well in England with Fulham Raúl Jiménez, so it is truly strange that they have called him up. But I think that from now until the World Cup he will continue to test,” he highlighted.

The problem in the selection is not in the forward

Ricardo Antonio assured that the problem in the Mexican team is not in the forwardsbut in the generation of options for the strikers to solve: “To begin with, I don’t think that the problem in the selection goes through the forwards. What happens is that in the Tricolor it does not generate plays. That is, Santi Giménez is accustomed to 10 or 15 scoring chances with Feyenoord, Henry Martín has 10 or 15 scoring chances at América. Julián Quiñones broke it with Julio Furch at Atlas, and then what we have to see is what the forwards’ chances of scoring are.”

There is a lack of players who provide offensive plays

La Volpe also explained the reasons for calling up naturalized players: “I think it’s because we don’t bring out players like Manuel Negrete, Tomás Boy, Benjamín Galindo, The more César Huerta, the Diego Lainez, there is more production from midfield players to the back.”

“The reason is that the big teams, most of them have that foreign position, if I go to Tigres, if I go to Monterrey, if I go to Cruz Azul, to América itself, there they have Diego Valdez, then Mexican soccer is not generating those offensive players, to produce players like Tecatito Corona, at the time a “Cabrito” Arellano as Chucky Lozano was generatedthen we have to ask ourselves, something is happening,” he concluded.
