Supreme Court accepts lawsuit from arms producers against Mexico

The Supreme Court accepted the case of arms producers seeking to dismiss a lawsuit from the Government of Mexico over arms trafficking that has allowed cartels to have high-caliber arsenals.

It is estimated that 80% of the weapons trafficked to Mexico come from the United States, due to the lack of controls for their purchase.

There were seven manufacturers in the original suit, but five were dropped, due to jurisdictional justifications, but Smith & Wesson and Interstate Arms remained in the suit and are now seeking to have it dismissed.

Mexico has won several legal battles in this judicial process that has become significant in its fight against cartels, in order to reduce arms trafficking, an industry that is estimated at $250 million dollars annually.

Supreme Court justices must discuss the case in the next nine months.
