Ricardo Antonio La Volpe,Former technical director of the Mexican national team, with extensive experience in several Liga MX teams, justified the desire of Fernando Gago, coach of the Chivas del Guadalajara, of wanting to coach Boca Juniors in Argentina.

In a telephone conversation with The OpinionLa Volpe precise: “I understand Gago, because Boca Juniors is one of the two highest-ranking teams in Argentina and it is not that Chivas does not have a hierarchy, but rather that Argentine football at a global level has a higher value and is the door to a possibility of directing in Europe for Gago.”

La Volpe added: “Knowing Gago when I managed him at Boca Juniors before going to Real Madrid, I think that directing Boca is very important for his careerhe is a young coach and having the possibility of coaching Boca is a very strong incentive, especially because it is one of the two strongest teams in Argentina and you have to tell people that to coach the Argentina team or go to Europe, the Argentine market is stronger than the Mexican one.”

La Volpe highlighted that another of the core points for Fernando Gago is considering returning to Argentina is that he is a good friend of the current president of the Xeneize squad Juan Román Riquelme and he also knows how the Boca Juniors environment is handled from having played in that squad.

“Gago is a friend of Riquelme and that is an important point. I think it will be very difficult to say no to Boca Juniors’ offer and it is not about belittling Chivas, we must clarify it, Chivas is a great team, but really for Gago in his career, directing Boca would be very important.”

Ricardo Antonio also pointed out that Gago He demonstrated his ability by regaining prominence for Chivas and above all, giving the opportunity to young players, which is why, if the operation to manage Boca Juniors is completed, it will be difficult to find a replacement for the Argentine strategist.

“Gago helped regain Chivas’ prominence and, above all, put together a team with many young players, I think that would be his contribution, his legacy and obviously now in case the operation is completed, Chivas will have to bet on a technician to extend this project or give it continuity.”
