Mexican soldiers are implicated in the death of six migrants in Chiapas

At least two Mexican soldiers are being investigated for shooting migrants from Middle Eastern countries in the state of Chiapas, southeastern Mexico, resulting in six migrants dead and 10 injured.

According to the agency itself, last Tuesday, members of the Mexican Army, while carrying out ground reconnaissance, detected a pickup-type vehicle that was traveling at high speed, The same person who fled when he saw the military personnel.

At the rear of the pick-up were two pickup trucks like the ones used by criminal groups in that region.. Military personnel reported hearing detonations, so two elements activated their weapons, stopping one of the police vans from moving.

“Upon approaching, the military personnel identified 33 migrants of Egyptian, Nepalese, Cuban, Hindu, Pakistani and Arab nationality, of whom four had died, 12 injured and 17 unharmed,” Sedena acknowledged.

According to the note, the two Mexican Army agents would have confused the 33 migrants traveling in two vans with alleged criminals.

The remaining 17 people who were unharmed were placed at the disposal of the National Immigration Institute, who attended to the incident according to protocol.

Due to these events, the two soldiers who fired their weapons against the migrants were separated from their duties and will be investigated by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) for causing harm to civilians.

At par, Sedena reported that the Attorney General’s Office for Military Justice will also develop its own “investigations regarding military discipline.”

In addition, Sedena indicated that it established coordination with the Foreign Ministry to maintain contact with the corresponding embassies.
