Former PSG player who was in a coma due to an accident with a horse will play in Qatar

He Qatari Al Gharafa officially announced this Sunday the signing of the Spanish goalkeeper Sergio Ricowho arrives as a free agent after finishing his contract with the Paris Saint-Germain last June 30.

Rico, 31, who previously played for Sevilla and Fulham, had inactive since May 2023 after the accident in which a horse hit him in El Rocío, an accident that left him in an induced coma for 26 days and he was admitted to a hospital for three months.

Winner of two Europa League titles with Sevilla, and two Ligue 1, two Cups, a League Cup and a Super Cup with PSG, he was international once, in a friendly against South Korea on June 1 of 2016 in which he replaced Iker Casillas at 73 minutes.

In his new team he coincides with the also Spaniards Joselu Mato and Rodrigo Moreno.

Sergio Rico left the hospital on August 18 and since then his intention was to play football again. He no longer achieved it with Paris Saint-Germain since his contract expired days before, so he dedicated himself to looking for a new team and this Sunday his transfer was finally made official.

According to local media, his contract is for one season with the option of another.

Al-Gharafa currently occupies fourth place in the country’s league standings with 8 points in 5 games and seeks to advance in the tournament standings to be able to compete for the local title and secure a position that gives it a place in the upcoming continental championships.
