USCIS unveils its new logo, what does it mean?

The new badge of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) presents the Statue of Liberty as a visual representation of the commitment of uphold America’s promise as a nation of welcome and possibility, according to Ur M. Jaddou, the director of the federal agency, in a statement on X.

Jardou said when presenting the new emblem: “Today, I am pleased to unveil our new @USCIS insignia. It is designed to link our culture, values, and long-term goals to how we define our agency, and represents the collective contributions of our agency and the embodiment of the American dream.”

“When I look at USCIS, I see the immeasurable sacrifice and perseverance of those seeking a better future for themselves and their families. I see hope and prosperity being passed down from one generation to the next,” he continued in his encouraging message. referring to the millions of immigrants that the United States has received.

Jardou concluded the presentation of the new USCIS emblem referring to the agency workers“When I look at USCIS employees, I see committed, hard-working public servants. Together, our employees provided feedback to ensure our insignia reflects our fairness, integrity, and respect for all we serve.”

Why does the Statue of Liberty appear on the new USCIS emblem?

The Statue of Liberty was created in Paris by the French sculptor Bartholdi, in collaboration with Gustave Eiffel (who was responsible for the steel structure). This imposing monument to freedom was a gift from France on the occasion of the centenary of American independence.

Inaugurated in 1886, the sculpture is located at the entrance to New York Harbor and Since then it has welcomed millions of immigrants to the United States.

Powerful symbolic elements of the design include the American Declaration of Independence, which the Statue holds in its left hand, as well as the broken shackles from which it emerges.

The symbolic value of the Statue of Liberty lies in two basic factors.

It was donated by France with the intention of affirming the historic alliance between the two nations. It was financed by international subscription in recognition of the establishment of the principles of freedom and democracy by the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America, which the Statue holds in its left hand.

The Statue also quickly became a symbol of the migration of people from many countries to the United States. in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and remains a powerful symbol that inspires contemplation, debate and advocacy of ideals such as freedom, peace, human rights, the abolition of slavery, democracy and opportunity.
