Raphael Varane, ex Real Madrid player, announced his retirement from professional football

Raphaël Varane has finally decided to put an end to his time as a football player, The French central defender has made his professional retirement from the playing fields official. Varane, 31, announced on social media that he is hanging up his boots after having spent several months in a constant battle with different injuries and physical problems that have undoubtedly compromised him and he has not been able to perform consistently and at an acceptable level. The newspaper Le Parisien was the media that broke the news on Tuesday night and later the French player expressed through a text the confirmation of the news.

Varane’s statement on his social networks

“They say that all good things must come to an end. Throughout my career I have taken on many challenges, I have risen to the occasion after occasion, almost all of them supposedly impossible. Incredible emotions, special moments and memories that will last a lifetime. Reflecting on these moments, it is with immense pride and satisfaction that I announce my retirement from the sport we all love.”

“I demand the most from myself, I want to retire strong, not just clinging to the game. “It takes a great deal of courage to listen to your heart and your instinct. Desire and need are two different things,” Varane wrote on his Instagram account.

The text continued as follows: “I have fallen and gotten up thousands of times, and this time it is time to stop.” and hang up my boots with my last game winning a trophy at Wembley. I have loved fighting for myself, for my clubs, for my country, for my team-mates and for the fans of all the teams I have played for.”

“From Lens to Madrid, via Manchester and the national team. I have defended each badge with everything I have, and I have loved every minute of the journey. Football at the highest level is an exhilarating experience. It tests every level of the body and mind. The emotions we experience cannot be found anywhere else. As athletes, we are never satisfied, we never accept success. It is our nature and what fuels us.”

Varane since his arrival in Serie A

The central player had only been able to play one match with his new club, the recently promoted to Serie A, Como, and the same was in the Coppa Italia against Sampdoria on August 11. Since then, Varane had not been able to leave the infirmary behind, fighting against physical problems that he was dragging and against an injury in one of his knees that kept him conditioned to the full since the beginning of the current season, to the point of finally making the decision to retire at 31 years of age.

A dream time with Real Madrid

The former French national team player puts an end to a career that was full of successes. His first steps were with Lens and at 18 he headed to Real Madrid, a team with which he was able to lift a total of 4 European Cups and became the ideal partner for the Spaniard Sergio Ramos in the back line of the merengue club. With the French national team he was proclaimed world champion in Russia 2018, forming a unique and epic duo with Samuel Umtiti, in addition to being crowned champion in the Nations League in 2021, defeating Spain in the final.

In 2022, he announced his retirement as a player from the French national team.as he wanted to spend more time with his family and injuries began to haunt him during his final spell at Manchester United.
