Congress approved a measure to strengthen the security of presidential candidates

The Senate unanimously approved a bill on Tuesday to increase protection of the Secret service to presidential candidates, and sent the bill to the White House for President Joe Biden to sign.

The strong show of bipartisan support It occurred days after the House of Representatives approved the measure, known as Enhanced Presidential Security Actwithout any opposition in a vote of 405 to 0.

The bill would give the former president Donald Trump already the vice president Kamala Harris the same level of protection provided to BidenAt just three pages long, the bill gives the Secret Service broad discretion on how to implement measures to reach that level.

The bill was proposed in the same month that an apparent second attempt to assassinate Trump occurred.

The Trump campaign said Tuesday that it had received information from intelligence agencies about threats from Iran to kill him and destabilize him the elections.

Biden called on Congress to act last week, saying that the Secret Service “needs more help.”

The Enhanced Presidential Security Act was introduced in the House by Reps. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., and Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., brought the legislation to the Senate floor.

Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe has stated that Trump is already receiving the highest level of protection from the US Secret Service.
