Santiago Giménez suffered an injury this Sunday in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord. The Mexican striker was taken off on a stretcher in Matchday 5 in the 2-0 victory over NAC Breda.

Gimenez showed clear signs of pain in the back of his left leg, and his coach, Brian Priske, said he would miss a few weeks.

“He will be out of circulation for at least a few weeks, I still don’t know how serious it is; We have to wait a few days. I just spoke to him and he was positive,” said the coach after the match.

According to reports, the Mexican striker would be out for two to three weeks. This would make him miss matches of the Eredivisie, UEFA Champions League and the FIFA double date with the Mexican national team.

Giménez has 2 goals and 1 assist in five games played this season in the Eredivisie. In the Champions League he failed to score after 90 minutes against Bayer Leverkusen.

These are the games that Santiago Giménez would miss due to injury

  • Feyenoord vs NEC / September 28 / Eredivisie
  • Girona vs Feyenoord / October 2 / Champions League
  • Feyenoord vs Twente / October 6 / Eredivisie
  • Mexico vs Valencia / October 12 / FIFA date
  • Mexico vs United States / October 15 / FIFA date

Santiago Giménez has been on a drought for more than a month since his last goal with FeyenoordThe Rotterdam club’s striker last scored on 18 August with a double against PEC Zwolle.

Since then he has played three matches, plus a double match with Mexico, without scoring a goal. This year he was the subject of multiple rumours about a possible move to the Premier League.

Which striker could Mexico call up in the face of Santi Giménez’s injury?

Raúl Jiménez is one of the names that could replace Giménez in Javier Aguirre’s squad.

Jiménez is coming off a goal in Fulham’s win over Newcastle United. The Mexican has started two games in a row and scored a goal for his club.

This would mark the return of Raúl Jiménez to El Tri. The last time he wore the Mexico jersey was at the Concacaf Nations League Finals 2023.
