The Lebanese movement Hezbollah launched some “150 rockets, cruise missiles and drones” in a wider and deeper area of northern Israel on Sunday (22.09.2024), some of which fell near the city of Haifa, the Israeli army said.

The attack sent thousands of people running for shelters. The Israeli military said rockets had been fired “towards civilian areas,” pointing to a possible escalation after previous bombings had mainly targeted military targets.

For its part, Hezbollah claims it attacked Ramat David base and airport twicesome 45 kilometers from the border, with “dozens” of Fadi-1 and Fadi-2 rockets “in response to repeated Israeli attacks targeting different Lebanese regions and causing the deaths of many civilians.”

The bombing came after an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on Friday that killed at least 45 people, including two Hezbollah leaders, as well as women and children.

“Army attacks will continue and intensify”Israeli forces warned in a statement on Sunday.

Hezbollah was already reeling from a sophisticated attack that had exploded thousands of beepers and walkie-talkies just days earlier.

“In recent days, we have dealt a series of blows to Hezbollah that it could never have imagined. “If Hezbollah does not get the message, I assure you that it will,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement on Sunday, adding that Israel “will not tolerate attacks against its people and cities.”
