Former Gulf Cartel leader testified against “El Menchito” during trial in the US

One of the most anticipated trials, that of Ruben Oseguera Gonzalezalias “The Little Menchito”son of the founder of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), is taking place in a US court, so several drug traffickers are expected to give testimony.

One of them is Mario Ramirez Trevinoalias “El Pelón” or “X20”, former leader of the Gulf Cartelwhose testimony was presented on the sixth day of the trial, that is, on September 16, although it was recorded in February. The son of “The Mencho” He is accused of trafficking cocaine, methamphetamines and possession of firearms.

Rubén Oseguera was arrested in 2014 and released in early 2015; in June of the same year he was arrested again and that was when he met Ramírez Treviño, according to the witness, who said that had contact with “El Menchito” in prisonin the Altiplano Federal Maximum Security Prison.

He also explained that they were in the Special Treatment Unit of the prison; “Ramírez Treviño in 5 and Rubén Oseguera in 3, separated only by Servando Gomezalias “La Tuta”, former leader of The Knights Templar.

In his statement, he says that “El Menchito” did not seem violent the first time he was arrested, but he did the second time, perhaps because he was already second in command in the CJNG.

He also detailed that inside the prison “El Menchito” was contacted by another dangerous drug dealer, “Z-42”, Omar Trevino Moralesto ask him: “Rubencito, my brother ‘El Z-40’ (Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales) is sending you a message. Tell your father that he will buy a ton of cocaine from him in the Port of Veracruz for 15 million dollars.”

“El Pelón” also stated that “El Menchito” asked for his help to acquire an M60 light machine gun and a .50 caliber rifle, but he was unable to do so, although someone else helped him.

The crimes in which he is accused

According to Ramirez Trevino, “El Menchito” is guilty of shooting down an Armed Forces helicopter who was hit by a rocket launcher in May 2015 in Jalisco, since he was the one who gave the order. He even heard when they sang and recorded a corrido about it.

Rubén Oseguera González, alias “El Menchito,” was arrested on June 23, 2015 by a group of federal police and members of the Mexican Army in Zapopan, Jalisco. He was later transferred to Mexico City in an armored vehicle, and years later extradited to the United States. He now faces trial for various crimes, where several key witnesses have testified.

As for Mario Ramirez Trevino, His arrest occurred in August 2013 during an intense military operation by air and land in Reynosa, Tamaulipas.

This drug trafficker became the leader of the Gulf Cartel when Eduardo Costillaalias “El Coss”, was captured in September 2012.

Ramírez Treviño was a judicial police officer in Tamaulipas for six years, during which time he was part of the personal escort of a local independent drug dealer.

He was charged with conspiracy to manufacture and distribute cocaine and marijuana, and import them into the United States.

In 2017 he was extradited to the United States from Mexico.where he was in custody. Since then, he began to approach the authorities to reach, first a plea agreement and then, a collaboration agreement.

This explains why he is testifying against “El Menchito” in order to obtain a benefit in prison.

According to the newspaper Milenio, during his statement he appeared to be very physically exhausted, as he is awaiting an urgent kidney and liver transplant due to serious health problems.
