Evacuation plan for landslides in the Los Angeles area

Authorities issued an evacuation warning in the Rancho Palos Verdes area after Southern California Edison (SCE) announced the Power supply to 140 homes cut off due to ground movement problems.

According to the authorities’ alert, the evacuation warning is for Portuguese Bend Community Association Neighborhood.

The energy supplier said the earth movement is considered a threat to public safety and that would disconnect electricity service to 140 residential customers from noon this Sunday, September 1, for an indefinite period.

“We know that We are in a difficult time for Rancho Palos Verdes and we have been looking to maintain the power supply,” said SCE spokeswoman Gabriela Ornelas.

“At this time, the earth movement at Rancho Palos Verdes created such a dangerous situation that We must make the difficult decision to disconnect the power supply indefinitely. to keep that community safe,” the spokeswoman added.

According to SCE, a fire occurred in the Narcissa Drive area on Thursday caused by for one of its power lines that fell due to the earth movement.

According to Ornelas, the fire demonstrated that SCE cannot mitigate the public safety risk arising from earthworks in the area where the power service was being disconnected.

“As accelerated ground movement continues to damage our electrical equipment, We need to cut off power to maintain public safety“, the spokesperson reiterated.

On Saturday afternoon, many residents expressed their frustration during a community meeting, and some even took precautions and rushed to the Purchase of power generators for their homes.

“Yes, I am frustrated. I think if Edison (SCE) infrastructure poses an imminent safety risk, then that would require an immediate shutdown… but they are giving us 24 hours,” Rancho Palos Verdes resident Justin Monzon told ABC.

The resident mentioned that SCE should have notified them in advance if his true commitment was to this neighborhood.

Southern California Edison reported that Their clients were notified on July 30th to inform them that a power outage was possible due to conditions in the area.

A mobile customer service unit would be available in the Fruit Tree Road and Narcissa Drive area over the weekend to Provide residents with water and charging stations.

Officials said the areas affected by the power outages include RPV-E0160, RPV-E0115-A, RPV-E0155-B and RPV-E0150.

Earth movements have caused other damagesIn July, 135 homes were left without gas service.
