Russia shoots down 158 Ukrainian drones over its territory

Russian anti-aircraft defense systems A total of 158 drones were shot down last night over fifteen regions of the country, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported on its Telegram channel on Sunday (01.09.2024).

“Air defense equipment intercepted and destroyed 158 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones”the military statement said, adding that the attack was one of the most massive since the start of the Russian military campaign in Ukraine.

The Russian military said the largest number of drones were shot down over the Kursk (46), Bryansk (34), Voronezh (28) and Belgorod (14) regions, all bordering Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Defense, two drones were shot down over Moscow and seven others on the outskirts of the Russian capital.

Previously, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin had estimated that ten unmanned aircraft had been shot down in the vicinity of the Russian capital.. Other regions where anti-aircraft defenses intercepted drones were Ryazan (8), Kaluga (5), Lipetsk (4), Tula (3), Tambov (2), Smolensk (2), Oryol (1), Tver (1) and Ivanovo (1).
