US President Joe Biden has denounced the Russian attack on Ukraine’s power grid as “outrageous”, He said that Moscow “will never succeed” in the war against kyiv.

Russia launched hundreds of missiles and attack drones toward Ukraine on Monday, killing at least four people and damaging the country’s already weakened power grid, local officials said.

“I condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s continued war against Ukraine and their efforts to plunge the Ukrainian people into darkness,” Biden said.

“Ukrainian officials reported that these outrageous attacks resulted in the deaths of civilians and targeted more than two dozen critical electrical sites,” the president added.

“Russia will never succeed in Ukraine and the spirit of the Ukrainian people will never be broken,” Biden completed.

Moscow’s biggest attack on Ukraine in weeks triggered a massive wave of blackouts and comes as kyiv claimed progress in its incursion into Russian territory in the Kursk region.

Since the start of the invasion in February 2022, Russia has launched repeated large-scale drone and missile attacks against Ukraine, including retaliatory bombings of energy facilities.

Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed the strikes on the power infrastructure in a statement, justifying them by saying the facilities were being used to support Ukraine’s “military production complex.”

The attacks also injured about 20 people in the country, according to Ukrainian officials.

Biden stressed in his statement that the United States will continue to lead the coalition of more than 50 countries in support of Ukraine that has already provided the country with “urgently needed” military equipment, including air defense systems.
