Patrick Mahomes and his wife donate $5 million to the University of Texas for the renovation of its stadium

Patrick Mahomes3-time Super Bowl winner with the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL, and his wife Brittany, donated $5 million on Thursday to Texas Tech University, his alma mater, to complete the modernization of its stadium.

“We couldn’t be more proud to announce this gift from Patrick and Brittany Mahomes. “We are so proud of Patrick for all he has accomplished and how he has continually supported Texas Tech on a global scale,” said Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt.

There isn’t a greater ambassador for Texas Tech Athletics, not only for his success on the field but for what he and his family do off of it.

In recognition of this donationthe university will name the near-completed walkway area at the Womble Football Center after Patrick Mahomesthe team’s quarterbacks meeting room and offensive coordinator’s office in the new South Side building at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Before being selected by the Chiefs in the first round of the 2017 Draft, Mahomes shined between 2014 and 2016 with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, with which he completed 857 passes for 11,252 yards and 93 touchdowns in those 3 seasons.

Despite his success in the NFL, where he has won 3 championship rings, has been named Super Bowl MVP 3 times, has 2 season MVP designations and 6 Pro Bowl selections, The quarterback maintains the habit of going to cheer on the Red Raiders whenever he has the chance.

Even Mahomes’ signature Gladiator logo has become a fixture for Red Raiders fans since Texas Tech agreed to a 10-year partnership to promote it last July.

“There is no better ambassador for Texas Tech Athletics than Patrick Mahomes. Since I was hired here at Texas Tech, I It has become evident how much Patrick loves this university and the football program,” said head football coach Joey McGuire.

Thanks to the Chiefs star’s donation, Texas Tech announced that funds raised for the renovation have reached $115 million, surpassing the initial goal of $100 million.
