Vice President Kamala Harris is pushing a tax cut plan for middle-class families, as well as a child tax credit of up to $6,000.
“Vice President Harris proposes a new plan to obtain tax relief for more than 100 million Americans,” the campaign told this newspaper. “Her plan will expand the Child Tax Credit to provide a $6,000 tax cut to families with newborn children.”
These new proposals are in addition to those announced by the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate a few days ago on how to deal with price speculation and housing.
The plan by Democratic nominee and vice presidential candidate Governor Tim Walz seeks to reduce taxes for middle-class families with children.
“Vice President Harris will restore the expanded Child Tax Credit from the American Rescue Plan and fight to make it law across the country,” she said. “She will provide up to $3,600 child tax credit for middle class and working families with children who are facing hardship.”
That plan is in addition to the tax cut for those with newborn children, which would apply only to the first year of life.
“[En ese periodo es] when a family’s expenses are higher (cribs, diapers, car seats and more) and many parents are still forced to forego income while taking time off from work,” it notes.
The campaign said Vice President Harris’ plan differs from the plans of former President Donald Trump and Republican vice presidential hopeful JD Vance because the Democrat “is committed to ensuring that no one making less than $400,000 a year pays more in new taxes,” it said.
More aid for workers
The Harris-Walz campaign has indicated it will seek tax cuts for frontline workers.
“[Harris y Walz] will expand the Earned Income Tax Credit to cover low-income employed individuals and couples who are not raising a child at home, reducing their taxes by up to $1,500,” it said.
Part of the vice president and running mate’s justification is that tax cuts would help Americans afford health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
“[Esto] will allow them to save an average of $700 in health insurance premiums, which represents a savings of more than $6,000 per year,” it was stated.
The campaign emphasized that former President Trump wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
In addition to criticizing former President Trump for going against the grain by promising more tax breaks for billionaires and big business, the Harris-Walz campaign noted that Sen. JD Vance “didn’t even show up to vote for cutting taxes for middle-class families” when it was proposed in the Senate.
Senator Padilla praises strategy
Regarding the Harris-Walz plan, Senator Alex Padilla (California) acknowledged that the plan would benefit Latinos and other disadvantaged populations.
“Vice President Harris and Governor Walz understand that Latinos are looking for a leader who fights for us and the issues that matter to our families,” she said. “That’s why today they are announcing their plan to combat the high costs of prescription drugs, housing, and groceries.”
Padilla also criticized Trump and his MAGA movement based on an economic and “anti-Latino” platform.
“[El plan republicano] “It only serves the rich and powerful and would increase inflation and costs for middle-class families,” he warned. “Make no mistake, this November Latinos will send Vice President Harris and Governor Walz to the White House, the only leaders who will fight for working Latino families and ensure that the American dream remains a reality.”
