During his time as governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, now Kamala Harris’ running mate, launched an initiative to provide students with menstrual supplies free in state schools.

Last year, The 60-year-old Democrat signed an education bill that included a mandate for schools to provide free tampons and sanitary pads to female students in grades 4 through 12.

As a result, Minnesota became one of 28 states that now require schools to provide low-income students with menstrual hygiene products.

However, not all of these states have a budget for schools to purchase pads or tampons.

That’s why Walz’s measure caused a stir, since it ends up affecting Minnesota’s budget allocation.

According to the newspaper Wall Street JournalSince 2019, the price of sanitary pads has increased by 41%; while tampons have also increased in price by up to 36%.

All of this puts a financial burden on women and adolescent girls who begin menstruating, so shifting part of this expense to the government is a relief for them.

Not all governors think like Tim Walz, and the most obvious example is Republican Ron DeSantis, who in June vetoed a state funding bill that sought to replicate Minnesota’s.

Due to his political vision, Kamala Harris’ running mate has received multiple negative criticisms and even Donald Trump has raised his voice to allegedly warn citizens about the risk the country would face by allowing Walz to access the vice presidency.

“If Comrade Walz and Comrade Harris win this November, the ones who will be cheering will be the pink-haired Marxists, the looters, the perverts, the flag-burners, the Hamas supporters, the drug dealers, the gun confiscators, and the human traffickers,” he noted.

For now, the arrival of the state governor to the rescue of Joe Biden’s right-hand man has been well received by Democrats and donors, contributing more than $36 million to the Harris-Walz ticket campaign.
