Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the Republican Party has become a cult which some of its own members have asked him to defeat during the upcoming presidential elections.

During an interview given to the television channel MSNBC, The 82-year-old Democrat addressed Republican attacks on the ticket formed by Kamala Harris, Vice President of the Nation, and Tim Walz, Governor of Minnesota.

According to his view, the conservatives have moved away from the historical foundations of their organization and have handed the party over to a group of individuals who use it for their own personal purposes.

“The Republican Party has been hijacked and is now a cult; they should take it back because a republic needs a strong Republican Party,” he said.

Pelosi says that, despite being political rivals, some of her adversaries with less decision-making power in the highest echelons of her party have asked her for help in removing the leaders and thus recovering her.

“Some Republicans have said to me, ‘We have to beat them in the general election because we can’t beat them in the primaries. And then we’ll get back to our debate on the issues.’” he pointed out.

Without mentioning the name Donald Trump, The veteran Democrat’s comments were directed at the New York tycoonsince he became the Republican candidate, he removed the leadership of the Republican National Committee and even appointed his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, to a key position in the organization with the aim of raising as much money as possible to boost his campaign.

Pelosi has a long-standing rivalry with the former president that arose from the period when both fought to advance various initiatives, But then this worsened with the attack on the Capitol in January 2021, for which he still holds him responsible.

Since then, the Democrat has urged citizens to avoid supporting Donald Trump, considering him a danger to democracy.

This is why the former Speaker of the House of Representatives chose to support Kamala Harris with the goal of becoming the country’s first female president.
