American sprinter Noah Lyles, Olympic champion in Paris of the 100 meters and bronze medalist in the 200, announced this Friday that he will not run the 4×100 relay that he had planned and ends its participation in the Games in the French capital.

Lyles’ decision comes a day after the 200-meter final, in which the American athlete ran impaired by Covid, which he contracted on Tuesday, August 6.

“First I want to thank God for helping me get through these Olympic Games. Secondly, I want to congratulate Letsile Tebogo and Kenny Bednarek and everyone else for an incredible Olympic 200m final. Finally, I want to thank everyone for the messages of support,” Lyles said on social media.

“I think this will be the end of my 2024 Olympics. It’s not the Olympics “These are the ones I dreamed of, but they have left me with a lot of joy in my heart. I hope you all enjoyed the show. Whether you were rooting for me or against me, you have to admit that you watched it, don’t you? See you next time. Sincerely, The Fastest Man in the World for the next 4 years!” he concluded.

Noah Lyles admits suffering in the 200 meters due to Covid

Noah Lyles won bronze in the 200m and then admitted that having Covid took its toll on him.

“I have Covid. I tested positive on Tuesday morning at around 5am. “I woke up in the middle of the night with chills and a sore throat, which were a lot of the symptoms I had just before I got COVID,” she explained after the race.

The athlete had to leave in a wheelchair after suffering chest pains and running out of breath.

“We took the test, the result was positive and we quickly went into quarantine. “At a hotel near the (Olympic) Village, they tried to get me to take all the medication we legally could to make sure my body could keep up the momentum,” he said.
