Four bodies abandoned just a few meters from a hotel in Cancun

Violence in Cancun is turning the popular tourist destination into a lawless territory, where disputes between organised crime groups take place in broad daylight and in public places.

And shootings and executions are becoming more frequent, where there are even police officers among the victims, as recently happened with the discovery of four bodies.

This incident occurred on the federal highway that connects Cancun with the Riviera Maya, very close to the international airport, a new shopping center and a hotel.

It was the motorists passing by the place who reported the presence of the authorities. A corpse on a dirt road parallel to the main entrance of the Moon Palace hotel.

According to local authorities, upon arriving at the scene it was confirmed that the man was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Three more bodies were also found in an abandoned warehouse, located at the end of the same dirt road.

Hours later, the Attorney General of Quintana Roo confirmed that One of the bodies belongs to a municipal police officer who was off work due to illness, while the other three people have not yet been identified.

Initial lines of investigation point to recent operations related to human trafficking and the settling of scores between members of criminal groups in the region, according to EFE.

Elements of the National Guard were sent to points near the site where they left the four bodies.

The agents were located under a bridge that connects the Moon Palace hotel and a new shopping center with the Cancún-Puerto Morelos-Playa del Carmen highway, where vehicles from the corporation were also installed.

Just this weekend it was recorded an armed attack in the hotel zone of Cancunwhere three armed men riding jet skis fired shots at a lodging center and injured a 12-year-old boy who was with his family at Playa Caracol, a public beach resort located between hotels, restaurants and commercial establishments.

Although he was rushed to a hospital in the city center, authorities confirmed his death was due to a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The state of Quintana Roo, in the Mexican Caribbean, is the country’s main tourist destination, but civil organizations have warned about the increase in the crime of human trafficking that occurs in the territory and of the dispute between criminal groups and drug trafficking.
