The current situation in Formula 1 and especially in the Australian Red Bull team Racing is not a very positive situation for Mexican driver Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez, who will have to face the summer break in F1 with his present and future totally uncertain at the moment. In the paddock there are a couple of versions regarding the Mexican; those who say that he is hanging by a thread and others, like Checo Pérez himself, who do not see his permanence and stay at Red Bull in any danger at all.

Despite this, both team manager Christian Horner and Helmut Markohave already made it known that in these last two races there should have been an improvement in terms of their performance level behind the wheel and this did not happen.

Belgium ended up being a disaster for Red Bull

Belgium’s qualification made the Mexican driver dream of competing again Perez finished first on the grid, although he was far behind his teammate Verstappen in terms of time, but the race was another reality check and once again the ghosts of what he has had to deal with so far in the 2024 F1 campaign were present. “Finishing 8th (eventually 7th) from 2nd position on the grid is certainly not what we expected,” said Marko at the end of the race, hinting that Perez’s future at Red Bull remains an unknown.

The single-seater called RB20 is no longer so dominant and At Milton Keynes there is already concern not only because the constructors’ championship is at risk, but also because the points gap between ‘Mad Max’ and the rest continues to narrow as the races progress.

So, in this summer break, where there is supposed to be a break and a little calm in the teams, the Red Bull offices seem to be wide open and working at full speed, because according to information released by De telegraaf, the Austrian team will hold a summit to decide the future of Checo Pérez and the steps to be taken for the remainder of the 2024 season.

The Dutch media, which is usually reliable, since it has contacts with the environment of the Red Bull star driver Max Verstappen has said that the energy drink brand’s advisor will fly to Milton Keynes on Monday and will consider replacing him as soon as possible. “We will analyse everything and then make a decision,” Helmut said, making it clear that the second seat in the Red Bull car is not guaranteed for the Mexican.

Clauses can become reality

Although Checo signed a renewal contract, the same Marko had already mentioned at the time that there were performance clauses and a few months later they could be made effective depending on the Mexican’s level on the track. Horner had always been more cautious when talking about Checo, but in Spa he was seen to be much more forceful with his words, which suggests that the Mexican is more out than in.

🚨Christian Horner’s statement

“Checo remains a Red Bull Racing driver, despite all the speculation of recent times. We look forward to seeing him perform on circuits where he has done well before, after the summer break”

A test for new candidates

Possible replacements for Checo Pérez are handled as follows: manner: Daniel Ricciardo, who is Horner’s favourite option and who were seen talking at Spa after the race; and the other is the prospect Liam Lawson, who is Marko’s preference.

But they are not the only ones. In factRed Bull has organised test days at Imola with the 2022 Alpha Tauri car, where Lawson, Ricciardo, the Japanese Yuki Tsunoda and Iwasa had the opportunity to drive around the Italian circuit.

Time to re-group as a team, but also to have some rest with our families.
There’s still a long championship ahead, so we’re going to work together to get back where we belong.

It’s time to regroup as a team, but also to get some rest with our families.
