Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz, the Spanish tennis duo, are already in the second round of Paris 2024. The Spaniards defeated the Argentine pair composed of Máximo González and Andrés Molteni and are waiting for their rival.

The multiple Grand Slam winners can now face Fucsovics and his partner Fabian Marozan if they meet Dutchmen Tallon Griekspoor and Wesley Koolhof.

Coincidentally, Fucsovics is Nadal’s scheduled opponent for the singles round. Although the Spanish tennis player neither denied nor confirmed that he would participate in the singles due to discomfort in one leg and preferred to focus on doubles.

“Tomorrow we will decide whether I play or not. I am not ready to answer that question right now,” said the Spaniard after winning the first round of the doubles tournament alongside Carlos Alcaraz.

“I will speak with the team. We will make the decisions that we believe are most appropriate as a team to try to have the best chance of bringing medals home for the Spanish team, to try to give ourselves the chance to make that happen,” said the Spaniard.

Nadal will choose to get medals

Nadal said that it is not always good to want to win more medals when trying to achieve good results: “Sometimes more is less.”

“But I’m not saying that I won’t play, it’s just a reflection I’m making. We’ll try to make the decision that we think is best for us as a team to give ourselves the best chances,” said the player from the Balearic Islands after defeating the Argentines Máximo González and Andrés Molten 7-6(4) and 6-4.

Despite not having shown any signs of discomfort throughout the match, the player himself suspended his participation after revealing that he was suffering from discomfort in his right thigh.

On his return to the centre court at Roland Garros, where he has won the clay-court Grand Slam 14 times and where he lost in the first round against German Alexander Zverev last May, Nadal said he felt good alongside Alcaraz.
