Mexican swimmer Miguel de Lara did not have the best start in these Paris 2024 Olympic Games after being disqualified this Saturday from the 100-meter breaststroke event for having made an illegal movement during his presentation.
Despite finishing second in his qualifying round held in the pool at the La Défense Arena complex in the French capital, the representative of the Mexican delegation was disqualified for having performed a “dolphin kick” that is not permitted in this event.
“I’m going to look for an explanation. I’m very angry and upset; I’m confused, I don’t understand why. I’m going over the test in my head. Whatever went wrong, went wrong.”the Mexican swimmer commented angrily after his disqualification in statements collected by the Mundo Deportivo portal.
But beyond the discomfort left in Miguel de Lara by his disqualification despite having achieved the second best time in his heat, the Mexican did not lose his way and aimed at his other challenge in these Paris 2024 Olympic Games where he will also be participating in the 200-meter breaststroke event.
“We are going to shake off whatever happened and focus on the 200 metres. That is our tough event and we will see what we can achieve.”the Mexican swimmer said in an interview with ESPN, referring to the test he will compete in on Tuesday.
But beyond the bitter taste left by his debut at the Olympic Games, Miguel de Lara also took the opportunity to express his discontent with the inconveniences they have had to overcome during these first days in Paris 2024.
“We are missing a little bit. You know how things are with the federation. We needed someone to look after our interests. We are the only team that doesn’t have a massage table, we don’t have anything, but that’s how it is.”commented the swimmer who also questioned the organization of these games.
“Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. The air conditioners in the rooms don’t work. I had to sleep with the window open and I have eight bites on my face. I couldn’t sleep well.”said the Mexican swimmer, who added to the voices criticizing the conditions in the Olympic Village as well as in the rest of the Paris 2024 facilities.
For now, Miguel de Lara has no other option than to turn the page and take advantage of the next few days to prepare in the best way for his tough competition in the 200-meter breaststroke, seeking to improve his performance this Friday, which marked his debut at the Olympic Games.
