Unlike the opening of such events, the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be atypical, as it will not be held inside a stadium, as tradition dictates, but will take place in public and before the eyes of all those who want to witness first-hand one of the most anticipated moments of the summer competition.
Although the French capital is home to the iconic stadiums of Saint Denis and the Parc des Princes, the Organising Committee decided to move the ceremony to the Seine riverwhich will give us an unconventional and very original opening.
Until the opening of Tokyo 2020 we had been used to seeing athletes parade in a caravan through the stadium, but now they will do so on board 100 boats with capacity for 10,500 people. The smaller delegations will share a boat, with the large contingents being the only ones to sail the Seine with only athletes from their delegation.
The tour of the Seine will begin at the bridge of Austerlitzon one side of the Garden of Plantsand will conclude in front of the Trocaderothe esplanade located in the Eiffel TowerThe emblematic brazier will be located in the Tuileries Garden.
Another innovation that the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will have is that it can be watched for free through the platforms that will be installed at strategic points on the Seine, while there will be a cost for those who decide to watch it from the lower quays.
In addition, 80 giant screens and a large number of speakers will be installed, ensuring that no one present will miss a single detail of the ceremony.
The dancers, who will be in charge of the choreographer Maud Le Pladecthey will not perform their choreographies on a boat, but will be placed on some of the bridges that cross the Seine.
The platforms will have a capacity to accommodate up to 222,000 fanswhile the capacity for the dock area amounts to 104,000.
Tickets with cost range from 90 to 2,700 eurosThe difference in price is determined by the location and category of each seat. Seats on official sales sites are already sold out.
