Russia launches new drone attack on kyiv, but fails

Russia launched the early hours of this Sunday (21.07.2024) The fifth drone attack in the past two weeks against kyivalthough anti-aircraft defense systems managed to intercept all the aircraft, said the head of the Regional Military Administration of the Ukrainian capital, Sergey Popko. The authority pointed out that the attack sirens began to sound at about 2 a.m.

“In the past two weeks, this has been at least the fifth consecutive real attempt by the enemy to attack the capital with drones.“Several unmanned aerial vehicles launched by Russia were heading towards kyiv, but “all of them were destroyed by air defence forces and electronic warfare means on the approaches,” he explained.

“There are no casualties or damage in kyiv at the moment,” Popko said, adding that these systematic attacks once again demonstrate “that the invader is actively seeking to strike” Ukraine’s main city. “They are trying out their new tactics, looking for routes to the capital and trying to expose the location of our air defense,” he said.

Missiles against Sumi

According to the report of the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Lieutenant General Mikola Oleshchuk, in the evening Russian forces attacked ten regions of Ukraine with three Iskander-M ballistic missiles, two X-59/69 guided missiles and 39 Iranian Shahed kamikaze dronesAir defense managed to shoot down 35 drones, while guided missiles failed to reach their targets.

According to the invaders, the missiles were aimed at the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine, illegally occupied by Russia.
