“In a globalized world, the tortilla has become an ambassador of Mexican culture, taking our flavors and traditions to every corner of the planet, and even to outer space. It is a symbol of the gastronomic richness of our country!” continues the petition, which has so far gathered the support of 316 people.

“Despite its importance, the corn tortilla still does not have a world day to celebrate its cultural and nutritional value. Therefore, the National Tortilla Council asks teacher Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to promote the officialization of this celebration before the United Nations Organization,” the petition stated.
