Jacoby Jones, former player for the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL and champion in the Super Bowl Bowl XLVII, unfortunately passed away last Sunday at his home in the city of Houston, Texas at the age of 40.
“We are completely heartbroken to hear of Jacoby’s passing. Jones. Jacoby had a unique ability to connect with everyone he encountered,” the Ravens posted on social media, showing respect for the memory of the man who played for them in life.
Jones was a pretty important player for the Ravens in what was power win the Super Bowl XLVII title, in which they defeated the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 34 to 31.
In that duel Jones was one of the most outstanding players and collaborated for the championship with two touchdowns, one a 56-yard reception and a 108-yard kickoff return. The latter record, it should be noted, is an NFL record for the longest kickoff return in a playoff game. In total he accumulated 288 yards, a record for a Super Bowl game. Jones is the leader with the highest kickoff return average for the Baltimore Ravens with 30.1 yards per return.
“He was a light. He was the darling son of his beloved mother, Mrs. Emily. They were so “He was a man of faith. My personal favorite Jacoby moment was every time I saw his smiling, joyful face. Rest in peace, Jacoby,” were the words of regret and sadness from Ravens coach John Harbaugh.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on July 11, 1984, he came to the league after having been chosen in the third round of the 2007 Draft by the Houston Texans, a team with which he played until the 2011 season and with which he returned 64 punts for 1,490 yards and a touchdown.
He was part of the Baltimore Ravens between 2012 and 2014, a franchise with which He returned 86 kicks for 853 yards. He also returned 101 punts for 3,037 yards. He managed to score a total of five touchdowns. As a receiver, he scored three scores. In the 2015 season, his last in the NFL, he played for the Los Angeles Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Last years as an athlete
In the 2017 campaign he played with Monterrey Steel of the National Arena League (NAL), a professional indoor football league. On September 29 of that same year, he signed a one-day contract to retire as a member of the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL.
NFL numbers
In a total of nine years in the NFL, Jones accumulated 2,733 yards per game. reception and 14 touchdowns. On 276 kickoff returns he totaled 2,688 yards and four touchdowns. On kickoff returns he had 4,940 yards and five touchdowns.
