Shakira: Between praise and criticism for her show at the 2024 Copa América

On the spectacular stage of the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Shakira’s show generated controversy due to speculation about the use of playback during their half-time performance at the 2024 Copa América.

During the event where Argentina and Colombia were competing for the title, Shakira surprised with a dazzling outfit and her characteristic loose hair. The highlight of her performance was the face of a wolf, a recurring symbol in her performances.

In addition to that, the theme revolved around her latest album ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’. The artist began her performance with her hit ‘Hip’s Don’t Lie’, a song in which she stood out for her iconic movements.

Then he moved on to ‘I congratulate you’, a song that she shares with Rauw Alejandrowhich is characterized by robot movements. The next piece in their repertoire was ‘TQG’ and, finally, ‘Puntería’being the official song of the 2024 Copa América.

First half in Copa America

For the first time in the history of the Copa América, a halftime show like the one performed by Shakira was held.

The show lasted 26 minutes in total, including the set-up, presentation and dismantling of the stage. Normally, the break time for the players is 15 minutes.

Alejandro Domínguez, president of Conmebol, was in charge of announcing Shakira’s participation “The time has come to announce the superstar who will be in the unforgettable final of the Copa America. A superstar who believed in greatness and who represents and magnifies Latin American greatness in the world. Just like our football, that day in the final, it will be a party final and there is no one better than Shakira to be with us to enjoy this great final.”

Singing at sporting events is nothing new for Shakira, the artist has an outstanding career. One of her most famous shows was the 2020 Super Bowl, in which she shared the stage with Jennifer Lopez.

In addition to that, he is responsible for ‘Waka Waka’, the song for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

It is unknown how much Shakira was paid for her Copa América halftime show, however, journalist Juan Etchegoyen said that Conmebol paid her “an exaggerated amount” for her participation.

According to what she mentioned, the Barranquilla native received $2 million dollars for singing four of her most successful songs in the Argentina vs Colombia final.
