The Serbian Novak Djokovicwho qualified for the quarter-finals of Wimbledon, spoke about her mishap on Monday with the public and He assured that when someone crosses the line, he responds.

Djokovic interpreted the chants of “Rune” as boos towards him and he responded on the court by covering his ears and after the match he responded.

“To all those who have respected me, good night. For those who don’t, good night. I know they supported Rune, but I also know that It was just an excuse to boo me“said the Serbian in the trackside interview.

“I’ve been on the circuit for over twenty years and I know all the tricks. It’s okay, I focus on the people who respect me and who have paid to see me. “I’ve played in much more hostile environments. They can’t do anything,” the Serbian complained.

In a press conference after the match with Holger Rune, Djokovic clarified what happened.

“I don’t know what Wimbledon can do about this. People have paid for their tickets. They have a right to be there and support what they want. The chair umpire can step in at certain times and reassure them, but there’s not much else that can be done. You’re not going to kick out part of the crowd. That’s how it is, it’s part of the sport. It’s one of the reasons we’re here and why we’re recognised all over the world, it’s because of the fans, the interest they show in watching the games, paying for the tickets and queuing up for us. I respect that.”

“It is completely acceptable to support whoever you want, but if you cross the line, I respond.”, added Djokovic, who today reached the quarterfinals.

Rune himself explained the situation in his press conference and said that it all started at the US Open, the first time they both played, when the Dane was 18 years old.

“The crowd was screaming my name and it sounded like ‘boo’. We played several times afterwards, but in Italy and France, where they pronounce my name differently, and now we are in England.. Maybe if you didn’t know it may sound like ‘boo’, but if you know the story you know it’s my name“.

If Novak Djokovic has a million fans, then I am one of them. If he has ten fans, then I am one of them. If he has only one fan then that is me. If he has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. If the world is against Novak #Djokovic, then I am against the world. pic.twitter.com/W1hUE2tUki

Despite this mess, Rune did not make excuses for the defeat. “Obviously he has played a lot of games since then, if he doesn’t remember it that’s normal. I don’t think he played a big role in the game. He was simply better than me, regardless of the crowd. The crowd supported both of us. He supported me in the big points and me too.“.
