Actor Eduardo Yánez spoke out after the incident involving reporter Patricia Cuevas’ phone during the Hispanic Grandeza Awards at the Centenario Coyoacán theater. In a contact with the Imagen Televisión program ‘De Primera Mano’, the actor acknowledged that he made a mistake.
“It’s a shame that everything turned out that way because it was a very nice tribute to Nicandro Díaz, from us, those of us who worked on ‘Golpe de Suerte’”he expressed.
The actor also took the opportunity to defend himself, claiming that he felt like they were pecking at his back and for that reason he acted.
“They were pecking me on the back and I reached out and grabbed a cell phone and it was Pati’s, unfortunately. A little Pati with her usual tough questions, but I have always attended to Pati and I have always answered her “said.
Yánez assured that the production of the event had informed him that the interviews were not outside, but would take place on the red carpet.
He declared that he has a history with the journalist Patricia Cuevas and that she is characterized by her aggressive questions.
“Every time I meet her or outside of Televisa she asks me some very tough, super aggressive questions,” he reiterated.
What happened to Patricia Cuevas’ cell phone?
On Monday, June 24, the images of Eduardo Yánez with the journalist’s phone went viral. In the videos published by journalist Ernesto Buitrón, it is observed how the actor says that he took the phone from Patricia Cuevas.
In the middle of what was happening, the reporters shouted “don’t attack the press.” This version was not the one told by the actor, since he maintained that they touched his back and asked him uncomfortable questions.
Yánez exclaimed to the presenters of ‘De Primera Mano’ that he mentioned that he would give her his phone number later and once inside the event, he sent his assistant Margarita to hand it over and the reporter refused to accept it.
He added that he feels that Patricia never liked him and that is why she acts that way when she goes to interview him.
“A mess was created that should never have been created. “I made a mistake when I took the cell phone, it’s final, and that was my only mistake, really.”he repeated.
The ‘Destilando Amor’ actor stood up against the reporters and implied that, sometimes, journalists are invasive and that “yes, it’s okay.”
“But I do? Being pecked in the back is also fine, all of that is fine.”
According to reports, the journalist proceeded legally against the celebrity and went to the Public Ministry to tell her version of the events.
Given this, Yánez pointed out that if he has to go to court, he will do so without any problem because he will accept his mistake. “Obviously, I’ll go because I don’t have to be playing with it,” he said.
