UnidosUS Action Fund, California Latino leaders and elected officials have announced they will meet in Los Angeles on June 28, 2024 to discuss the priorities that interest Latinos and mobilize those California voters who will be decisive in the 2024 elections.
The meeting aims outline key issues for Latinos including economic stability, access to health care and immigration reform, as well as strategizing effective ways to engage and mobilize the Latino electorate in California.
The Latino vote is a crucial factor in the 2024 elections
The UnidosUS Action Fund is committed to addressing the key issues that matter most to the Latino community, such as economic stability, access to health care, immigration reform and reproductive rights.
“California’s Latino community faces unique challenges and has different priorities that must be addressed. By actively participating and making our concerns known, we can shape policies that will impact our economic stability, health care, and immigration reform. “It is our time to lead and make a difference,” said Rafael Collazo, executive director of the UnidosUS Action Fund, in a statement.
Data from recent surveys conducted by UnidosUS highlight the importance of these issues for Latino voters.
Political compromise
In the next elections in 2024, 22% of Latino voters will participate in a presidential election for the first time. As of 2016, 38% of the Latino electorate is made up of new voters, highlighting the rapid growth and importance of engaging this demographic.
Latino voters generally reject extreme positions and they favor politicians who are willing to work together to address problems, showing a preference for pragmatic solutions.
Economic problems that affect Latinos
Inflation, cost of living, employment, health care and housing affordability are paramount for Latino voters. Housing affordabilityin particular, has become one of its top five priorities for the first time.
Health care
Health care consistently ranks as a top concern among Latinosand highlights issues such as access to medical services, the impact of abortion legislation, and the need to expand Medicaid in several states.
Immigration
Immigration remains a crucial issue, and Many Latinos Support Pathways to Citizenship for Undocumented Immigrants and Better Border Management. The current political climate and legislation significantly impacts the opinions of Latino communities and their participation in the electoral process.
In addition to meeting with local leaders, the UnidosUS Action Fund will focus on mobilize Latino voters through strong efforts to get out the vote, especially in critical California House districts.
