Serbia national team threatens to abandon Euro 2024

Jovan Surbatovic, general secretary of the Serbian Football Association, did not hesitate for a single second in launching a threat this Thursday with the complete withdrawal of the Serbian national team from Euro 2024, this as a consequence of the chants that were heard from a sector of the fans present at the match that faced the Croatian and Albanian squads. , where these fans chanted at the top of their lungs, “kill the Serb.”

In recent statements to RTS, Serbia’s state broadcaster, Surbatovic asked UEFA that an important, significant and severe sanction be adopted against the federations of the Croatian and Albanian national teams, or otherwise, Serbia will make the decision to proceed to take action.

“It is scandalous and a complete disgrace”

“What happened is scandalous and we will ask UEFA for sanctions.”, even if that means not continuing in the competition. We will demand that UEFA sanction the federations of both teams. If UEFA does not punish them, we will think about how we will proceed,” were Surbatovic’s words and impressions.

Serbia was already fined by UEFA with 12,550 pounds at the time, after its fans objects were thrown during the match against England. And, like Albania, it also received a sanction because some of the fans from both countries displayed nationalist map banners.

“They sanctioned us for isolated cases and our fans behaved much better That the others. A fan was punished for racist insults and we do not want it to be attributed to others. We Erbs are gentlemen and we have an open heart, so I ask the fans to continue being gentlemen,” concluded Surbatovic.
