The resolution chamber of the independent FIFA Ethics Committee resolved to impose new sanctions on former President Joseph Blatter and former Secretary General Jérome Valcke, after considering them guilty of committing several violations of the organization’s Code of Ethics .
As confirmed by FIFA, both have been disqualified from any activity related to football (administrative, sports or of any other type), both nationally and internationally, for a period of six years and eight months and will also have to pay a fine of a little more than $ 1 million dollars.
The prohibitions prevent them from holding positions in football
Since the previous prohibitions imposed on both by the independent Ethics Committee in 2015 and 2016 have not yet finalized, the sanctions notified this Wednesday will only come into effect when the previous ones expire -on October 8, 2021 in the C Blatter’s case and on October 8, 2025 in Valcke’s -.
The FIFA confirmed the decision of the ethical body independent following investigations into various charges related to premium payments related to FIFA’s own competitions made to senior officials of the entity, as well as modifications and extensions of employment contracts and reimbursement by FIFA of the private legal expenses in the case of Jérôme Valcke.
FIFA explained that for the calculation of the sanctions the judging chamber applied the principle of “lex mitior” and the article 11 of the edition of 2018 of the Code of Ethics that stipulates a maximum limit for the punishment to be imposed.
Blatter appealed in 2016 to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) the sanction that FIFA imposed on him then, but his claim was rejected.
