Deserved tribute: This will be the ceremony with which Franz Beckenbauer will be remembered at Euro 2024

Franz Beckenbauerone of the great legends of world football, who passed away on January 7, will be honored at the opening ceremony of Euro 2024, which will take place on Friday at the Allianz Arena in Munich before the match between Germany and Scotland that will officially kick off the continental tournament.

The legendary German footballer will be remembered when his widow takes the field before the start of the game. Heidi to receive the Henry Dalaunay trophy in his name before the fair, which on June 14 will be lifted by the champion team of the contest.

To Heidand the two living captains of the European champion German teams will accompany her in the presentation of the cup: Bernard Dietz (1980) and Jurgen Klinsmann (1996), to represent the three German teams that have lifted this title since the tournament existed in 1960.

Beckenbauer was the captain of West Germany in the 1972 Euro Cup, in which they won the tournament by defeating the Soviet Union in the final, and participated in the victory in the 1974 World Cup, as well as guiding the ‘Mannschaft’ as coach to the title in the 1990 World Cup.

He also played for Bayern Munich, winner of three European Cups in a row between 1974 and 1976, with which he achieved five Bundesliga titles (four as a footballer and one as a coach) and presided over the Bavarian club and the 2006 World Cup Organizing Committee.

The Germany great passed away aged 78 in January, having lifted the European Championship and World Cup as a player, and the latter as a coach.
