Authorities reported that A four-year-old girl and her mother were killed during a shooting Friday night on the Florida Turnpike in Broward County.
Florida Highway Patrol officers responded shortly after 11:50 pm Friday to the northbound lanes of the Turnpike, south of Hollywood Boulevard, and discovered that both had suffered gunshot wounds.
Hollywood Fire Rescue personnel responded, according to Local 10.
“Sadly, the child was pronounced dead at the scene,” FHP Lt. Indiana Miranda wrote in a statement, adding that her mother was also pronounced dead later at the hospital.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, The victims were four-year-old Janelle and her mother Beatrice Saintvil.
FHP officers temporarily closed the Florida Turnpike in both directions early Saturday morning. A tow truck removed a car that was riddled with bullets on the front and rear passenger side.
“At the request of our department, detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene and are currently investigating this fatal shooting,” Miranda wrote.
