The armed wing of Hamas fired several rockets on the Israeli city of Tel Aviv on Sunday (05/26/2024)., in an escalation of the conflict that international diplomacy is trying to stop with new efforts to resume negotiating a truce. The attack, which caused one minor injury, is the first by the Palestinian Islamist group against that part of the country in almost six months.

Alarm sirens rang out in central Israel for the first time in months. Shortly after, the Ezedin al Qasam brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, stated on Telegram that they had attacked Tel Aviv “with a significant barrage of rockets in response to the Zionist massacres against civilians.”

“After the sirens, eight projectiles were identified crossing from the Rafah area towards Israeli territory and several of them were intercepted,” the Israeli Army confirmed in a statement. Hours earlier, Israeli shelling and artillery fire had hit the north and center of the Palestinian territory, as well as Rafah, the city at the southern end of the Gaza Strip from which hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have fled and where they continue There is fighting despite the fact that the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel on Friday to suspend operations in this sector.

A military spokesman already announced last week that The Israeli Army believed that Hamas had a rocket arsenal in Rafah with the capacity to reach the center of Israel and that they would make use of it as Israel advanced towards the interior of that city at the southern end of the enclave, bordering Egypt.

The Magen David Adom emergency service reported that it treated a person who was slightly injured while running to a shelter, without clarifying the location of the impact. lThe emergency services reported that shrapnel from the intercepted rockets has fallen in several places, in the city of Ranana, north of Tel Aviv, and also in the cities of Petah Tikva and Bnei Brak. Gaza’s civil defense, for its part, said it recovered six bodies after an airstrike on a house in eastern Rafah.
