On Saturday, May 25, the winners of the Cannes Film Festival 2024and on this occasion the Best Actress award went to Adriana Paz, Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofia Gascón and Selena Gomezfor the movie “Emilia Pérez”directed by Jacques Audiard.
Gascón is the first trans actress to win that award at Cannes, and she turned to her account instagram to share with his fans a long message in which he thanked the recognition: “It has been many years of very hard work, I hope you can soon enjoy it in all the cinemas in the world. Thanks to all the technical and artistic team that has made “EMILIA PÉREZ” possible, as important as those of us who came out to collect the awards, without you none of this would exist.
Karla, 52, also pointed out that she is not without obstacles when she wants to stand out internationally.: “There is a bittersweet point in this victory, we advance, but with pedals. I’m tired of egos, of fears, of so many people who try to demean my work to fill their void. You are wrong if you think that this weakens me, on the contrary, it makes me stronger, you are the gasoline to reach my next step. I have decided not to get into controversies with anyone, I have been fighting on the front lines for too long, now I am only going to let my work speak… for now There you have this GOLDEN PALM TO A WOMAN, TO AN ACTRESS who gives her whole soul in every job.”
In his message Gascón also thanked his fellow actresses: “Zoe, Selena, Adriana, I adore you, it is an honor to work with you. I have a message of hope for all those people who live in darkness and hatred, as happens in this wonderful film: there is always an opportunity to change and be better people, think about it. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE CAREFUL MESSAGES AND COMMENTS, THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCED THIS AWARD WITH THE SAME EMOTION AS ME.”
“Emilia Pérez” marks the return of Karla Sofia Gascón to the movies; his previous job was “Change of meaning”a film released in 2014. On television, some of his credits are the series “Kangaroos”, “Central Hospital”, “A lucky family”, “The Lord of the heavens” and “Rebel”.
