He Manchester United closed the season with a title this Saturday by being crowned champion of the FA Cup after winning the derby against City (1-2) who missed the opportunity to achieve a double after having been crowned for the fourth consecutive season in the Premier League.

The team led by Dutch coach Erik Ten Hag silenced the criticism with a great performance in the legendary Wembley stadium by achieving an exciting victory that allows them to close the season by lifting a trophy despite the constant criticism that the Red Devils received for their which was his performance in the English tournament.

A reaction of less than 10 minutes at the end of the first half allowed Manchester United to win. The goals of the Argentine striker Alejandro Garnacho (m.30) and the English midfielder Kobbie Mainoo (m.39) ended up sentencing the Manchester derby.

Pep Guardiola’s team tried to come back and in the final minutes added more excitement to the match with the injury time converted by Jeremy Doku (m.87) despite Phil Foden, but the reaction was not enough for the Citizens to avoid defeat against the Red Devils.

This was the first 90-minute defeat for Manchester City since December 6 when they lost to Aston Villa (1-0). This chain of 35 games without defeats in regulation time includes the elimination in the Champions League against Real Madrid in the penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.

The victory achieved by Manchester United in the derby is only the second in the last eight games against City, which fell just short of becoming the first team to win the Premier League and the English Cup for two consecutive seasons.

It is the second title for Erik Ten Hag at the helm of Manchester United after having won the League Cup last season. The Dutch technical director has been in the spotlight and there has been speculation about his possible departure from the team, something that could lose weight after this victory.

Manchester United finished in eighth place this season in the Premier League, leaving them without options to compete in European competitions next season. They had a record of 18 wins, six draws and 14 losses, this being their worst performance in the last 34 years.
