Man receives package with live rattlesnake in the mail in San Bernardino County

A man got a tremendous scare upon discovering a live rattlesnake in a package he received in the mail in San Bernardino County.

Elijah Bowles, 60, of Twentynine Palmsadmitted feeling nervous after the experience he experienced earlier this month, considering that it was an attempted murder.

The victim asked a friend to open the package they had just picked up from the post office, and inside they found a live rattlesnakeaccording to the Los Angeles Times.

“When he opened the box, he almost threw it at me. He told me there was a snake in there“Bowles said.

Fortunately, Neither of them were bitten by the reptile..

The couple immediately stopped and contacted 911 and Animal Control, who picked up the western rattlesnake, a species that is also called the North Pacific rattlesnakeindicating that it is originally from the north of the state and not from southern California.

City of Twentynine Palms Animal Control Supervisor Rick Boyd told the Los Angeles Times that the snake appears to have been intentionally mailed.

Just as this snake was able to be captured safely, Bowles said that A second package, “practically identical” to the first, was sent to his home in Florida..

After learning what happened in California, Bowles’ relatives in Florida took the package to the police station without opening it. The contents of the second package are unknown.

A postal inspector reported that the package was marked “fragile” in black marker, and had a return address for a home in Palm Coast, Florida. The mail was mailed to Hayward, California, on May 3.

“I’m trying to find out if I have any enemies. “I’m not a gangster, I’m a truck driver,” said the 60-year-old San Bernardino County resident.
