They will no longer distribute contraceptives during Olivia Rodrigo’s concerts. This week, at one of the shows in St. Louis, Missouri, as part of his Guts World Tourthe singer’s fans were provided with free emergency contraceptive pills and condoms as part of an initiative to support women’s reproductive rights.
Now, according to Variety, Rodrigo’s team informed the organizations that work with the National Network of Abortion Fundswith which the singer partnered to install contraceptive stands at her concerts, that they were no longer allowed to hand out reproductive health resources for free at concerts.
Apparently, The decision is made after the media attention that the singer’s initiative received this week.
Jade Hurley, communications manager for the DC Abortion Fund, told Variety that the National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF) said that Rodrigo’s team preferred not to distribute lubricants, condoms and emergency contraceptives because there are children at the concerts.
“The reality is that young people are having sex and need access to contraception and emergency methods,” Hurley told Variety. “What we are doing is completely legal in all 50 states,” she added.
Although NNAF organizations were prohibited from distributing emergency contraceptives, condoms and lubricants, They will continue to distribute information material.
The National Network of Abortion Funds began distributing contraceptives last week in Charlotte, North Carolina; However, on Thursday the news went around the world after a photo of the free pamphlets, distributed by Right by You and the Missouri Abortion Fund, went viral on X.
The initiative received positive reactions but also many negative ones, as is usually the case with everything related to abortion..
In February, Olivia Rodrigo began her Guts World Tour at the Acrisure Arena in Thousand Palms, California. The singer is expected to tour more than 70 cities in North America and Europe with her tour, which will end in August.
The singer will donate part of the income generated from the sale of tickets for her concerts to organizations that support women’s reproductive rights.
Proceeds from one of her most recent shows, the one in St. Louis, were donated to the Missouri Abortion Fund and Right By You, organizations that offer telephone assistance to women who wish to terminate their pregnancies.
