Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (New York), and the highest-ranking Jew in Congress, called on Israel to organize elections to replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, considering that “he has lost his way.”
“Prime Minister Netanyahu has lost his way by allowing his political survival to take precedence over Israel’s best interests,” Schumer said on the Senate floor.
The Democrat once again spoke out for a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine, contrary to the plans of dominant political groups in Israel, led by Netanyahu, who do not accept that proposal.
“As a result of these festering tensions in the Israeli and Palestinian communities, people on all sides of this war are moving away from a two-state solution, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who in recent weeks has said in repeatedly loudly what many have long suspected, by openly rejecting the idea of a Palestinian state and sovereignty,” Schumer lamented.
The Senate leader assumed himself as the highest-ranking Jew in the US government and an ally of Israel.
“As the highest-ranking elected Jewish official in our government and a staunch supporter of Israel, I rise today to say unequivocally: this is a serious mistake,” he said, referring to Netanyahu’s stance on the two states.
