The governor of Florida refused to support legislation by which minors under 16 years of age living in the “Sunshine State” would have been prohibited from enabling personal accounts on social networks.

Although the former candidate for the Republican candidacy heading to the November elections is not reluctant to allow minors to have access to the new communication channels available, considers necessary the supervision of their parents or guardians over the handling they give to their profiles displayed online.

“I have always said that social networks are clearly negative for children. Parents can supervise that they are used in ways that are beneficial.

“I think you have to strike the right balance when you look at these things, between policies that help parents get where they want to go and policies that simply override parents,” the 45-year-old Republican politician said in a statement.

It should be noted that, in recent days, Ron DeSantis seems to have changed his view about social media and the importance it can have in boosting any politician’s career.

In fact, the state president has adopted a communication strategy based on strengthening its image through the periodic dissemination of videos recorded by itself where he addresses political issues and even aspects linked to his family on his accounts on X and Instagram, mainly.

Some analysts agree that DeSantis is trying to start campaigning for the 2028 elections, since, although the presidential elections corresponding to the current period have not even been held, his objective is to avoid at all costs being labeled as a candidate unable to surpass Donald Trump in the selection process of the Republican candidate.

In stead of, He intends to assume the role of the conservative politician who knew how to give in to a party colleague at a better time and who he hopes will be able to hand over the baton to him within four years, period in which he will try to convince young citizens through social networks with a fresh vision to govern the country.

From this follows the support given to those under 16 years of age, as it is aware of the political capital that they can represent once registered on the electoral roll.
