Groups of immigrants and activists trapped in the border area between Mexico and Texas agreed that – presumably – the authorities of the “Lone Star” state had raised the height of the fence built with barbed wire. to further hinder access to US territory, an action that goes against a legal order to withdraw it.

In January, the US Supreme Court ordered that the Border Patrol will remove the fence set up by order of Greg Abbott, governor of Texas, which has not happened.

According to information from some organizations that provide support to groups of immigrants concentrated on the northern border of Mexico, the wire barrier made of knives was initially one and a half meters high, but A few days ago the structure was not only reinforced with cyclonic mesh, but also, between Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua; and El Paso, Texas, now rises until reaching almost three meters, which makes it practically impassable.

In this regard, Juan Carlos López Morales, spokesperson for the Diocese of Ciudad Juárez and who provides support to immigrants, expressed during an interview with the Spanish news agency EFE its concern for the integrity of human beings who, fleeing misery from their countries of origin, intend to cross into the United States, even if they put their lives at risk in doing so.

“It is putting their lives in situations of greater risk, they have already traveled a difficult path, traveling through Mexico was not easy for them, they have had to face more dangers and yet, when they reach the river at the border, they encounter greater difficulty,” he expressed.

Likewise, the Catholic religious made it clear that the immigration problem will not be contained with barriers, since the need of those who arrive from other countries in search of a better opportunity in life is even greater.

“They are not going to give up in their attempt to cross, we must be very clear, they are not going to give up. The only thing they are doing is risking their lives more, it is not only the height of the fences that they have to jump, it is the wires with razors that they have. Many of them have been injured.

We have seen where their clothes are covered in blood, the difficulties are increasing. And the only good thing is that, at the moment of crossing, they are injured and it becomes a health problem, a medical emergency that needs to be addressed on the United States side,” he stressed.

It should be noted that, on Thursday, Donald Trump paid a visit to Eagle Pass, Texas, and accompanied by Governor Greg Abbott, he promised – if necessary – to close the border as an extreme measure to block the way to waves of immigrants.
