Dozens of abandoned dogs are at risk of being euthanized in Los Angeles County

Tens of abandoned dogs are in danger of being euthanized in Los Angeles County.

A Rowland Heights dog boarding and grooming business seeks desperate help after a nonprofit animal rescue organization abandoned 31 dogs in its facilities.

According to representatives of Shanderin Kennels, the animals They were left there two years ago by a rescue organization called Woofy Acres. so that they could receive temporary care, but they never returned for them.

“We do not understand how could anyone think this is okay. We heard that this person did the same thing to two other facilities,” Shanderin Kennels veterinary technician Samantha Redline told KTLA.

According to the vet tech, the Rowland Heights shelter has attempted to contact Woofy Acres on several occasions regarding the dogs and request a refund for the almost $40,000 dollars that have been spent on the care of the 31 dogs, without success.

The veterinary technician said that the pound gives food to the 31 abandoned puppies with approximately 40 pounds of food each day.

The Shanderin Kennels shelter assured that They do not have enough equipment to maintain the care of the 31 dogsand if the dogs are not adopted, the company would have to deliver them to an animal shelter in Baldwin Park, which also does not have sufficient capacity to receive them.

Redline assured that the shelter has also had communication with other dog facilities in the area, but mentioned that most are exceeded to their maximum capacity.

The veterinary technician expressed her fear about the possibility of needing to transfer the 31 abandoned dogs to the Los Angeles County dog ​​shelter.

“It breaks your heart, especially after seeing what they were like at the beginning. Now that we have built so many relationships with all of them, it is difficult for them to think about shelter. We can’t do it,” Redline said.

Before arriving at the shelter, several of the 31 dogs had already experienced difficult living conditions in the past, and some of them were rescued from an abandoned Riverside County home in November 2023.

In the event that the puppies have to be transferred to the Los Angeles County shelter because a new home cannot be found, some of them could be sacrificed.
