Less than two weeks after leaving prison, a Hispanic man who was behind bars for multiple felonies for impersonating a doctorwas accused of trying to reopen a Botox clinic in Orange County.
Elías Rentería Segoviano, 63, resident of Anaheimpleaded guilty in April 2023 to 13 felony counts of unauthorized practice of medicine, which included giving Botox injections as well as facial and lip fillers to at least 28 women.
“Segoviano admitted that he performed invasive procedures and that he injected victims with Botox, anesthetic fillers and other potentially counterfeit medications that put patients at extreme risk“The Orange County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
According to authorities, Segoviano was arrested on July 19, 2022 in Anaheim and received a sentence of four years in prison for perjury and two years for unauthorized practice of medicinesentences that would be served simultaneously.

He California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) reported that Segoviano received 584 days of pre-sentence credit for time served while awaiting trial and was eligible for credit opportunities during his time in prison.
According to the CDRC, Segoviano was released under community supervision at the time he was released after serving his sentence.
However, less than two weeks later, on January 4, 2024, while under post-release supervision, The Hispanic man allegedly tried to sublet a space at Phenix Salon, in Brea.

A tenant who has operated a space at Phenix Salon Suites for 10 years told ABC that They are all tenants of independent suites to offer their servicessuch as hairdressing, facial treatments, eyelashes, nails and other types of personal care.
Some of the people who have clinics at Phenix Salon Suites mentioned that They observed the Hispanic man when he went to the place to ask about the possibility of using a space where he could offer his services.
“I knew that someone was watching him and he didn’t care“said the public affairs director of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Kimberly Edds.

Orange County prosecutors believe The fake doctor targeted Spanish-speaking womenwhom he lured to his clinic by posing as a highly trained medical professional.
“He wasn’t even honest with the people he was trying to rent space from at the Phenix Salon. He used a fake name to try to divert them from the idea that he was who he really was,” Edds said.
“He introduced himself as Elijahwhen his first name is Elías, and I hoped that they would not discover that he had a criminal past and that he did not have a license to carry out these procedures,” he added.

The public affairs director of the Orange County prosecutor’s office mentioned that Segoviano was determined to reestablish his businessand in this way attract Hispanic women to their clinic to perform their illegal medical procedures.
One of the suite’s owners initially signed a sublease agreement with Segoviano, but after learning from the news about his previous criminal conduct, The owner canceled the agreement and demanded the return of the keys.prosecutors said.
